Details

For American artist James McNeill Whistler, watercolor was an important medium for artistic experimentation. How can science help us uncover an artist’s working process, understand materials, and see more than what first meets the eye? In this drop-in demonstration, go beneath the surface of Whistler’s watercolors with Emily Jacobson, paper conservator, and Blythe McCarthy, senior scientist, as they share techniques, including infrared and ultraviolet imaging, they used to gain insights into Whistler’s works.
