Former Guarneri Quartet cellist Peter Wiley joins forces with the acclaimed Formosa Quartet for Franz Schubert’s symphonic String Quintet in C. The Formosa also gives the East Coast premieres of two quartets by Taiwanese-born composer Wei-Chieh Lin.

The Formosa Quartet, which won two major prizes at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, has been called “one of the very best quartets of their generation” by Guarneri member David Soyer. Quartet members have been hailed as “spellbinding” by the Strad and “remarkably fine” by Gramophone. The ensemble, which features violinists Jasmine Lin and Wayne Lee, violist Che-Yen Chen, and cellist Deborah Pae, has performed at Lincoln Center, Wigmore Hall (London), Chamber Music Hall in Berlin, National Concert Hall in Taipei, and with the Da Camera Society of Los Angeles.

Wei-Chieh Lin’s luscious music has been performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Jordan Hall, Centre Pompidou, and the National Concert Hall in Taiwan. Artists who have performed the composer’s works include the New Juilliard Ensemble, the Juilliard Orchestra, Ensemble InterContemporain, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, Insomnio Ensemble, Xasax Ensemble, and Makrokomos Ensemble, as well as members of eighth blackbird and Klangforum Wien. The Formosa will play his Pasibutbut and Taiwanese Folk Songs as part of the Bill and Mary Meyer Concert Series.

This performance is made possible through support from the Taiwan Academy, Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States.
