Join culinary historian Michael W. Twitty as he unlocks a treasure chest of traditions, foodways and memory from his award-winning book The Cooking Gene:  A Journey Through African American Culinary History in the Old South.  Twitty will share the story of his own diverse family history while exploring a shared culinary history of the south marked by discomfort and injustice, as well as triumph and legacy.  The Cooking Gene is a winner of the 2019 James Beard Foundation Award for writing and book of the year.
