AccessibilityASL-interpreted program

Black women play a foundational role in the history and legacy of go-go as singers, instrumentalists, managers, and organizers. However, the roles and experiences of women in the genre are largely overlooked. Sit down with ARTLAB, GIRLAAA, and leading frontwomen to virtually discuss what it’s like to be a woman in the go-go music scene.

This program is a part of ARTLAB’s Respect Her Crank! series. The series includes a set of public programs and a final virtual exhibit, celebrating women in go-go. ARTLAB is a digital art studio for teens, but this program is open to art- and go-go-lovers of all ages.

ASL interpretation will be provided for this program. If you have any questions about accessibility for this program, please email

This project received support from the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative.…
