AccessibilityASL-interpreted program

Go-Go music is not a thing of the past. It remains a prominent part of Black culture in Washington, DC. However, years of criminalizing go-go and corresponding gentrification has limited the younger generations’ access to the innovative community the music genre offers. Join ARTLAB and GIRLAAA for an intergenerational conversation on how Black Washingtonians recover from the decades in which the city attempted to mute their sound and what the future of go-go is lookin’ like.

This program is a part of ARTLAB’s Respect Her Crank! series. The series includes a set of public programs and a final virtual exhibit, celebrating women in go-go. ARTLAB is a digital art studio for teens, but this program is open to art- and go-go-lovers of all ages.

ASL interpretation will be provided for this program. If you have any questions about accessibility for this program, please email

This project received support from the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative.…
