Details | An afternoon of artist-filled public programming on September 19 will kick off the opening of the traveling exhibition “A More Perfect Union: American Artists and the Currents of Our Time.” Join Kal Penn, Deborah Kass, Hank Willis Thomas, Sanford Biggers, Alfre Woodard, Alexis Rockman, and more as the National Museum of American History teams up with the University of Virginia’s Karsh Institute of Democracy and Art in Embassies to present exhibition tours by artists, conversations about the relationship between art and democracy in America, and demonstrations and activities to engage museum visitors. The conversations over the course of the afternoon, including “Revolutionary Questions at 250,” “Artist Advocates for Democracy” and “Storytelling and Connection,” will explore different ways that art informs and shapes democracy and democratic culture by helping audiences engage with one another, with shared values and principles and with the world. |
