For over 100 years, the United States Coast Guard has used aviation as a means to save those in peril and protect the U.S. from maritime threats. Join U.S. Coast Guard Cmdr.  Jeanine Menze, Lt. Cmdr.  Chanel Lee, and Lt. Cmdr.  La'Shanda R. Holmes (Ret.) as they discuss the victories and challenges of flying rescue and maritime enforcement missions for the military. These trailblazing women will also share their stories about how they became some of the first Black women to break barriers in their field by serving as aviators with the United States Coast Guard.
Cmdr. Jeanine Menze, a fixed wing pilot who flew during Hurricane Katrina, among other missions, was the first Black woman pilot in the USCG. 
Lt. Cmdr. La'Shanda Holmes was the first Black woman to serve as a helicopter pilot in  the Coast Guard.
Lt. Cmdr. Chanel Lee, a pilot and civil engineer in the Coast Guard, was  the first Black woman to fly an MH-60 Seahawk helicopter and be sent to flight school.
